Motor car manufacturer Volkswagen (VW) has announced that it has produced sales over the first half of the year surpassing those of Ford.
The 3.31 million VW models sold during 2008 - a 7.2 per cent rise compared to figures from 2007 - have seen the company leapfrog Ford to jump into third place.

Prof Dr Martin Winterkorn, VW chairman of the board of management, remarked that the company is "delighted" with its market position.
The official said: "This shows that we are on the right track with our ever-stronger international presence and, above all, our product program. We will systematically push ahead with our growth course even in the present difficult market environment."
VW is currently promoting its new Passat CC luxury coupe model with a direct mail campaign.
