People looking to secure car finance on a used model may find they have plenty of vehicles to choose from in the coming weeks, it has been suggested.
EurotaxGlass's reported a "dramatic rise" in the number of second-hand motors being purchased by UK dealers.
The group claimed retailers were probably reacting to a slight increase in demand which became evident after Christmas.
Commenting on the increase in activity, managing editor Adrian Rushmore said: "The level of trade buying is unprecedented for this time of year, exceeding all expectations given the broader economic conditions."
He explained dealers may have decided to focus their efforts on selling second-hand models in a bid to minimise the impact of a drop in new car sales.
Mr Rushmore pointed out even unfashionable gas-guzzlers were experiencing something of a renaissance.
Previously, EurotaxGlass's predicted used car values were unlikely to drop as steeply this year as they did in 2008.
