Trusting the badge of a used car is often a wise move for car finance customers - but not always, one expert has suggested.
In an article for the Washington Post, Pat Goss, owner of his own vehicle repair company and car mechanic with over 40 years experience, states that being reliant on trustworthy manufacturers is advisable but there are other factors to consider.
He states that drivers, including those shopping for a new vehicle with a used car loan, need to consider how a vehicle has been treated rather than looking only at recommended models.
"All the trusted names could be wise choices but the thing to remember is a used car is no better than the maintenance it has received and how hard or gently it has been used," he said.
He concludes that the vehicle history is essential to a purchase and recommends "a bumper to bumper evaluation before you give up any money".
What Diesel? recently announced the winners of its best oil burning used cars that included the Volkswagen Golf 1.9 TDI and BMW X5 3.0d.
