Car credit customers who are considering downsizing to a smaller vehicle in a bid to save money may be interested to hear how the iQ from Toyota incorporates four seats.
The model is less than three metres long and yet the manufacturer has described it as "spacious".
It claimed it has managed to achieve these apparently conflicting qualities by moving the differential in front of the engine.
The carmaker explained this made it possible for the space under the bonnet to be made more compact, the front wheels could be position at the corners of the vehicle with almost no overhang and it allowed the length of the cabin to be extended without increasing the model's overall size.
According to Toyota, the positioning of the wheels gives the motor a distinctive "super stance".
It stated: "This firmly planted look broadcasts the car's great stability and fun-to-drive character."
Buyers will be able to purchase the iQ from £9,495 when it goes on sale in the UK.
