Sales of environmentally-friendly new cars have continued to grow following the announcement that the world's favourite hybrid has sold its millionth unit.
The New Zealand Herald reports that Toyota has now sold a million of its Prius models globally and that 2007 was a record year for the car - which could be of interest to car loans customers looking for a greener motoring option.
It is noted that during the last year sales rose to 281,000 - compared to 183,000 in 2007, with the US proving to be the market where the Prius has been the most popular.
The publication suggests that this may be in part due to the lack of diesel-powered vehicles in the country - leaving hybrid power as the only alternative for those looking to cut their fuel bills.
An article for Wired this month suggested that buying a used car could be a better way to reduce your carbon footprint, as offsetting the energy used to produce a Prius would equal to driving it 46,000 miles.
