Motorists are becoming increasingly aware of the benefits to driving a small car, according to one expert.
A spokesman for Motorpoint said recent figures which show that there had been a "massive" shift towards lighter, more economical cars, was a result of "economic and environmental considerations".
David Shelton, managing director of Motorpoint, told totallymotor.co.uk that suggestions that more than two thirds of UK drivers were trading up for something smaller was having an effect on levels of stock available.
"Our stock buying capability is already sufficiently flexible to cope with the increased demand for smaller cars that we are seeing from our customers right now," he said.
He added that it was important for car loans customers to save wherever they can and take advantage of any deals available to them, to save money in the long-term.
Last year, it was reported Fiat had won the European Car of the Year Award 2008 for its latest 500 model.
