Safety or eco-friendliness: The dilemma of car loans shoppers

Drivers looking to spend their car loans customers on a safe and secure vehicle have been advised on a number of things to look out for.

According to an article for the Seattle Times, many motorists face a difficult decision when shopping for a new or used car, as concerns over the environment and fuel-efficiency can often affect the level of protection available on a vehicle.

However Tom Watson advises that although "the greenest cars might not fare so well in a collision" there is no reason why one option should be traded off against the other.

"If you want to go green and safe in your ride, you need to do your own parallel research. It may be time-consuming and frustrating, but it's well worth it. After all, how often do you buy a car?" he asks.

He goes on to state that experts recommend looking for a car which comes equipped with side-curtain airbags for all rows of seats, electronic stability control and vehicles that have scored well in crash tests.

"In purchasing decisions, a car's environmental impact should share equal billing with safety, durability, attractiveness and price," he concludes.

Since 1997, Euro NCAP has been the industry standard for providing safety performance advice on vehicles sold in Europe - with the organisation awarding stars based on the results of various tests.
