Safety is the key innovation at the top of most car finance customers lists, it has been suggested.
Forbes Autos reports that a recent study undertaken by Harris Interactive, found new systems that take over the steering wheel and allow drivers to avoid collisions were less likely to impress buyers than the knowledge that a vehicle was safe.
Drivers placed more emphasis on rollover detection and side-curtain airbags, the study found - something which the news agency states is often a feature on SUVs.
Commenting on the study, Thilo Koslowski of research group Gartner said that it was unsurprising that motorists had not yet taken to the idea of automated systems that take control of the wheel.
"Anything that's intrusive or takes away from the driver's experience is something that consumers are going to be nervous about," he said.
However, it was also revealed that half of the respondents said they would pay extra for the inclusion of a system that detectedblind spots.
In an episode of Top Gear last year, the automatic parking system of a Lexus LS was put to the test with debateable results.
