After a 25-day journey around Australia, Peugeot's 308 HDi 110 hatchback has entered the Guinness book of records.
The diesel powered car broke both the Round Australia Diesel Economy World Record and the Round Australia World Fuel Economy Record, making it a viable green alternative for car loan customers.
John and Helen Taylor drove the standard Peugeot diesel hatchback 9,000 miles around the coast, and achieved an average of 1,192 miles on a full tank of only 60 litres of diesel – more than 90 miles to the gallon.
John Taylor said: "We were very aware of the strong environmental credentials of the 308 before we set out on this journey.
"But we had no idea, however, that it would be such a record breaker. For us the Peugeot 308 is the perfect family car."
An independent investigator verified the record attempt and found the couple even had two suitcases full of clothes in the boot of the car for the entire journey.
People looking fornew car loans may be interested to hear other models in Peugeot's 308 range have won awards for their fuel economy.
Earlier this year the HDi 90 travelled the full length of the M25 – 117 miles – with only £10 worth of diesel in the tank.
