Parents advised on teaching young drivers

Parents who may be considering car loans for their children have been advised how they can ease a young driver's learning curve.

According to the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM), parents can help their kids by relearning the rules of the road before passing on the knowledge to their offspring.

The organisation believes it is important for children to have their driving development supervised before car finance is sought for their first vehicle - and that by retraining, a parent's knowledge becomes more valuable.

"If you want to help your youngster learn to drive, you need to go back to driving school yourself," the IAM said.

Last month it was advised that the economy was leaving drivers cautious over spending their money and as such an increasing number of people were turning to more fuel-efficient small cars.

Parker's Car Price Guide noted that "people who choose the cars with the lowest emissions will stand to gain most, as many small cars and diesel family cars will be subject to lower road tax."
