With the cost of fuel rising, one expert has advised car finance customers on some of the most economical vehicles currently available.
In an article for the Mr Money section of the Telegraph this week, it is suggested that for those shopping in the small car market the Hyundai i10 1.1 could be a good option as for under £7,000, the vehicle will offer fuel consumption of 56.5mpg.
The Kia Picanto 1.0 is praised for offering 57.6mpg and Citroen's C1 1.0, Fiat's Panda 1.2 and the Peugeot 107 are also noted as part of a "bargain-basement bunch" that prove "fuel-sipping cars can be among the least expensive vehicles to buy".
For those looking for something slightly larger, the most fuel-efficient superminis on the market are the Volkswagen 1.4 TDI Polo BlueMotion, the Ibiza Ecomotive, the Mazda2 1.3, Skoda's Fabia 1.4 TDI and the Vauxhall Corsa 1.0i.
However, the article adds that "the undisputed winners are the Polo and Ibiza, which are simply themost frugal and cleanest cars on sale", emitting 99g/km of CO2.
This week Reuters Motoring praised the Hyundai i10 for its price and range of standard extras that include air conditioning, electric front windows and a five-year warranty.
