New sat-nav 'can do everything but the dishes'

Panasonic's latest satnav system can be linked to your home – allowing motorists to check if they've left their oven on from the comfort of their car.

The hi-tech navigation aid can also help with home security, allowing users to check if they've locked their doors, or turn their living-room lights on and off while on the road.

With a seven-inch screen featuring Panasonic's patented Viera LCD technology, a DVD player, GPS, a hard-drive, an iPod link, bluetooth and a digital tuner, the Strada F-Class has more features than most home cinema systems.

But what separates the Strada from other in-car GPS devices is the 'From Home to Car' system, which uses a bluetooth enabled mobile phone to link up with a networked home.

Kazuhiro Tsuga, president of Panasonic's Automotive Systems, said: "Products such as our Strada F-model navigation systems shows how committed we are to improving consumer lifestyle."

Due to be released in Japan in June, the Strada –which also functions as a conventional satnav system – will cost £1,750.

But there are concerns that in the wrong hands the device could give criminals complete access to your home.

Police in the UK have already warned drivers that thieves can access information stored on stolen satnavs and use it to plan burglaries.
