People in Scotland using their mobile phones while driving have been made the subject of a crackdown by police in the country, it has been reported.
The Glasgow Evening Times has stated that there were 205 motorists in Strathclyde found breaking the law in such a manner by officials.
It follows legislation introduced by the Department for Transport in February 2007, under which drivers can pick up a £60 fine or three-point licence penalty for the crime.
Car credit customers who are caught may also find that they invalidate their car insurance policies, as cover companies could view them as a risk.
"This is a worrying trend and we need people to heed the warnings that using a mobile phone when driving is dangerous," commented head of road policing in the area Superintendent Niven Rennie.
Superintendent Rennie added that drivers who use their phones not only risk their own lives, but other people's.
