Running a vehicle in advance of taking to the road is not necessarily beneficial to the environment, one car expert has advised.
In a recent article for the Honest John section of the Telegraph, it is advised that one reader's husband, who insists on running his new diesel powered Audi for ten minutes each morning, may be wasting his time.
The reader states that her husband believes giving the engine time to "warm-up" in advance of taking to the road is beneficial for the car, however, the newspaper warns that there is a greener way to achieve this.
"It would be far greener to invest in an electric pre-heater that gets the engine close to running temperature before he starts it up. That way, he can drive straight off and leave you and the birds in peace," the writer states.
He adds that although some cars deal differently with the cold winter mornings most modern oil burners "are extremely thermo-dynamically efficient".
Audi now has aV12 diesel edition of its sporty R8, which Auto Week states proves the future of diesel-powered super cars is "bright".
