Leasing is 'cost effective alternative' |
|
Published: 02-Jul-2008 Renting cars can prove to be a cost effective alternative to owning a vehicle, one industry expert has claimed.
According to David Alexander, operations director for Europcar, renting a car removes the need for motorists to pay for mots, tax, insurance and vehicle maintenance.
Fuel costs can also be reduced as drivers can opt for smaller, more efficient vehicles, he continued.
Motorists are also increasingly renting vehicles just for a weekend, further reducing costs, Mr Alexander added.
Car loan customers may be interested to know his comments follow a recent BBC News report which claimed demand for older cars is falling as their running costs continue to exceed those associated with newer vehicles.
According to the report, annual excise duty for older models is such that a typical two-litre sports saloon now costs £400 to tax.
Europcar, which boasts more than 250 collection and delivery locations across the UK, has a rental fleet of over 54,000 car and 6,000 vans.
