New models from Audi, Ford, Skoda and Seat received five-star ratings in the latest round of crash-tests performed by Euro NCAP.
Of the seven cars tested four were awarded a five-star safety rating for Adult Occupant Protection and all seven cars received a four-star rating for Child Occupant Protection.
Despite impending European regulation on pedestrian safety only three of the vehicles tested achieved more than a two-star rating, with the VW T5 only getting one star.
Michiel van Ratingen, secretary general of Euro NCAP, said: "I am happy to see all of the cars in this round of testing have performed well in child occupant protection.
"Children deserve to be as well protected as adults and safety development in this area has not moved on as much as it should have done."
Euro NCAP noted that although most parents were aware children needed to be restrained while travelling, up to 60 per cent of restraints were not used as intended.
NCAP warned consumers to fit child seats that were compatible with their vehicle and to follow the fitting instructions carefully.
