Tips have been given to those who have never owned the same car long enough for it to undergo an MOT.
Nicknamed "MOT virgins", these drivers swap their vehicles quickly enough not to reach the three-year threshold - when all cars legally have to take the test - Kwik-Fit said today.
But because many motorists are feeling the financial pinch and keeping their motor for longer, they could benefit from some MOT first-time advice, the company stated.
MOT virgins should be confident first and foremost as some 67 per cent of cars pass the audit on their debut attempt, according to Kwik-Fit.
Booking online where possible can also help to save hassle and ensure a time can be arranged that is most convenient.
This can also save costs with some providers, it added.
"With new car sales sliding, 2009 looks set to be the year that MOT virgins come of age," remarked Kwik-Fit's customer services director David White.
Some car finance customers may find the tips useful, especially if they have taken advantage of trade-in schemes and treated themselves to new models over the course of a three-year period.
