Green drivers have inundated Ford with applications for a chance to take part in its Econetic Smart Driving Challenge this summer.
The competition will see British drivers compete for the title of the UK's greenest motorist.
Andy Taylor, Ford's sustainability director, said: "Smooth and smart driving plays a huge but often unrecognised part in motoring both financial as well as environmental."
Ford has teamed up with the Energy Saving Trust (EST) to offer six regional heats, including one at London's British International Motor Show in July, as part of the nationwide challenge.
The challenge will be split into three parts. First drivers will have their fuel consumption and CO2 output recorded to establish their eco-driving skills.
Next they will receive instruction from the EST on how to improve their scores and then they must attempt the challenge again.
Winners of the six regional heats will be loaned a Ford Focus Econetic and be given aguided tour of Ford's Dagenham Diesel Centre and the overall winner will get a £10,000 eco-makover for their home.
