Hyundai-Kia's global sales for 2007 came close to four million as the car manufacturer makes it into the top five of the world's biggest car companies.
The company has jumped six places from eleventh place in 2006, with global sales of 3,961,629, according to Automotive News' 2008 Global Data Book, published yesterday.
The firm outsold rivals Honda, Nissan , Peugeot, Chrysler and Fiat to leap up the top ten ranking.
Ik-Hwan Kim, vice-chairman and chief executive officer of Kia Motors, said: "We are extremely proud of having achieved this goal in such a short period of time.
"Our efforts have not gone unnoticed by the public or the industry."
Car loans customers may recognise the Kia brand from the sponsorship deal the company has with Channel Five's crime drama series'.
Kia saw a 22 per cent jump in sales in the UK during the first quarter of 2008 when compared with 2007 figures.
