Consumers who fail to haggle to secure the best deal are not making the most of the car finance they have available to them, one expert has suggested.
Following a survey from Sainsbury's that that showed used car shoppers were missing out on great deals by not bargaining with dealers, a spokesman for the group has urged car loans customers to get involved.
According to Steven Baillie, people can easily avoid losing out in this way by taking a more active role in the bargaining process.
"Clearly people are more concerned about their finances and so those still looking to buy should haggle as hard as possible," he said.
The survey revealed that by not haggling, UK drivers were collectively losing an average of £1,468 in savings on potential new car purchases.
It was also noted that of the 1.5 million people expecting to buy a new car between March and August 195,000 said they would accept the initial price without argument.
