Good maintenance 'can boost used car efficiency'

Car finance customers shopping for a new or used car have been advised how they can keep their new vehicle running at optimum efficiency.

According to a new article for carjunky.com, a well maintained car can offer the same economic savings that are attributed to hybrid models and has suggested a number of ways to keep an engine fuel-efficient.

It is reported that motorists, including those who may have just made a purchase with guaranteed car finance, should maintain their car in line with recommendations in the owner's manual to minimise fuel consumption.

The site adds that by keeping the car at this optimum level of health can make it five per cent more efficient and adds that regularly changing motor oil can improve horsepower and torque.

Air filters should also be regularly replaced and it is concluded that failure to keep tyres properly inflated "can increase fuel consumption by up to six percent".

It was reported that one of the "six steps togreener motoring" is ensuring a car has the right tyre pressure level, This Is Local London reports.
