A crackdown is to go ahead against motorists who fraudulently impersonate others when taking driving tests, it has been reported.
The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) has commented that it investigates all reported instances of the crime, often with the help of police and criminal justice bodies.
Car credit customers who pick up a conviction for the crime could find that they invalidate their car insurance and pay more expensive deals next time they come to renew.
Fraud and integrity head for the DSA Andrew Rice commented that the issue is an important one for the body.
He said: "Tackling impersonations is a key priority for the agency as offenders presents a significant danger to road safety."
The news comes after figures from the DSA published in the Telegraph show that there were some 168 fraudulent driving test cases in the UK in 2007.
