Ferrari has uncovered its first hard-top convertible – the California - which is expected to be the star of the Paris Motor Show later this year.
It is fitted with a 4.3-litre V8 engine with direct injection – another first for Ferrari – and, most surprisingly, space for four.
The massively powerful engine is connected to a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox, which produces 454bhp at 7200rpm ensuring the car can hit 60mph in just four seconds.
Ferrari’s latest GT will keep the traditional flat-plane crank shaft of the sporty F430, but the addition of direct injection will make the engine far more efficient reducing CO2 output to 310g/km.
The bodywork is entirely aluminium, keeping the weight of the vehicle down and Brembo carbon-ceramic breaks will give the car fade-free stopping power, no matter how fast it is travelling.
Car loan customers will be happy to hear that the California is aimed at everyday drivers and with configurable seating the newFerrari could become the flashiest family-car on the market.
Ferrari boss Luca di Montezemolo said: "The California is also exceptionally easy to drive and has a space behind the front seats that make it supremely flexible in terms of usage."
