The honesty of the motor industry when it comes to environmental issues has been praised by a sector official.
Paul Everitt from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) stated that the motor trade has been "honest and transparent" regarding green matters.
Car finance customers who pick up an eco-friendly model could find that they gain cheaper insurance policies for driving such vehicles - which are "becoming commonplace" on the market, Mr Everitt added.
"Quite simply, low carbon cars use less fuel. There is a simple link between lower emissions and lower running costs," he said.
The official also stated that over the last decade there has been a 13 per cent drop in new car tailpipe emissions.
SMMT statistics show a 1.1 per cent and 0.5 per cent fall in the number of used cars and light commercial vehicles purchased over the first quarter of 2008.
