Motorists travelling on British roads are prepared to become eco-friendly - but only if the price is right, according to a new survey.
A poll conducted by Auto Trader revealed that while 45 per cent of people considered a car's environmentally-friendliness a factor when purchasing, a further 87 per cent cited price.
The 3,300-driver study found that 20 per cent of motorists considered making their next move in the vehicle market a low-emissions car - a purchase they may take out a car credit deal to fund.
Financial services head at Auto Trader Tom White said he believes the outlook for the sector is bright.
He said: "It's great that our survey shows a quarter of motorists, equivalent to around eight million UK drivers, are seriously considering alternatively fuelled vehicles for their next car."
An environmentally-friendly car motorists may consider is the Toyota Prius - as favoured by movie actress Cameron Diaz.
