Car loans customers are increasingly looking for more fuel-efficient motoring and are turning to diesel vehicles, a new study has suggested.
According to the survey, sales of diesel cars in 2007 witnessed a 4 per cent rise in the UK as a whole and increased by nine per cent in the Greater London region.
The research, put together by Experian, also revealed that the rest of the south was also the most focussed on energy efficiency with drivers in the south-east, including those with new or used car finance, five per cent more likely to consider diesel.
This was followed by sales growth of 4.4 per cent in the south-east and according to Kirk Fletcher, managing director of Experian's automotive division, the rises are reflective of increased media attention on environmental issues as well as car tax and fuel duty rises.
"These latter factors appear to have played a more significant role in consumer buying habits over the last few years," he said.
It was alsoreported this week that Ford would attempt to attract car loans customers with green concerns by setting a CO2 reduction target of 30 per cent by 2020.
