Top Gear star Jeremy Clarkson has riled critics once again by announcing yesterday he has driven at 186mph on a public highway.
He also revealed, during an interview with journalist Rosie Boycott at the Hay on Wye festival in Gloucestershire, he hasn't been pulled over for speeding for at least 20 years only for driving without insurance.
Mr Clarkson was acquitted of a motoring offence last year after his solicitor Nick Freeman, also known as Mr Loophole, showed the prosecution was unable to prove he was the driver of a speeding car loaned to him by Alfa Romeo.
Mary Williams, chief executive of Brake, told the Daily Mail today: "Jeremy Clarkson is extremely offensive and irresponsible. His comments are very upsetting to loved ones who have suffered a bereavement through a road crash because of a speeding driver.
"He is the most appalling role model for our next generation of drivers. The BBC should sack him - he is totally out of control."
MrClarkson has long courted controversy, which has helped make Top Gear the most-watched TV show on BBC2 shown in over 100 countries around the world.
He has insisted, however, that he doesn't have any influence over anyone and that people just don't listen to him anymore.
