TV personality and radio DJ Chris Evans has exceeded the predicted price for a classic Ferrari at an Italian auction, it has emerged.
Bloomberg reports that the star splashed out £5.61 million on a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWV California Spyder in Nero black that was previously owned by Hollywood acting legend James Coburn.
Previously, US Auction Info had suggested that the car could sell for anything up to $6 million (£3 million) - meaning the amount of car finance put down by Mr Evans was well beyond expectations.
"I've always wanted a car like this since I was a little boy … this is the best of the best," he later told Bloomberg.
It is reported that the Ferrari: Leggenda e Passione auction, which was held by RM and Sotheby's in Maranello, Italy, also saw a number of prestigious supercars available.
Most notably under the hammer was a fully restored 1951 Ferrari 212 Inter Coupe, which was previously the runabout of Italian director Roberto Rossellini.
