Car finance customers are likely to be excited at news that Caterham Cars plans to allow members of the public to design its newest model.
The company explains it is carrying out a venture with automotive consultancy Project Splitwheel and will allow people - regardless of their level of engineering knowledge - to submit ideas and concepts for the new vehicle via the internet.
Registration is currently open and the project will begin in earnest in the new year, the company states.
Features of the site will include blogs and a Wikipedia-style user-edited knowledge database, as well as articles and guidance from automotive sector experts.
Environmental pressures will also be explored, with Splitwheel looking at alternative methods of propulsion, such as hybrid and electric solutions.
Managing director of Caterham Cars Ansar Ali states the company is "thrilled" to be involved in what it believes to be the first project of its kind in the world.
He adds: "Creating a worthy stable mate for the iconic Caterham 7 is one of the greatest challenges in the automotive world and one which will be hugely exciting for enthusiasts to get stuck into."
The Caterham 7 sports car was built by Colin Chapman around half a century ago.
