There are a number of things car finance customers should consider when looking to save on their car insurance, it has been advised.

According to research from esure, 46 per cent of motorists check what they will be paying in premiums for their new or used car and the provider has issued guidance for those taking the advisable step of doing their homework in advance.

The Telegraph states that the insurer suggests looking at the insurance group of a model before buying and opting for a vehicle that is equipped with security features as standard.

Avoiding modifications is also noted as a wise move and according to Mike Pickard, a spokesman for esure, these factors are also be applicable for the many drivers who may be looking to buy new this year.

"It's crucial for all motorists looking to buy an '08 plate to do their homework, shop around for the best deals and be both confident and clued up," he said.

According to the Mirror, Andrew Hagger of Moneyfacts believes shopping around for the right car finance package is as important as looking for the right make and model.
