Consumers are answering high fuel charges by simply looking for the cheaper option, one expert has suggested.
According to Burnham and Highbridge Weekly News, most drivers are looking to increase their fuel efficiency by shopping for small cars and diesel engines in answer to the spiralling cost of petrol.
Paul Everitt, chief executive of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders Limited, told the publication recent figures had shown diesel cars were selling better than ever and more efficient technology was also proving popular.
"The motor industry has invested in a wide variety of new technologies and exciting designs to ensure motorists have a wide choice and can continue to maintain their mobility, save money and reduce their carbon foot-print," he said.
It was also reported this week that Ford would boost its range of S-Max and Galaxy MPVs with a new TDCi turbodiesel engine - in addition to including Bluetooth connectivity as standard, just-auto.com reports.
