Drivers looking to spend their car finance on a retro classic could be making a mistake, according to one expert.
In an article for the Sunday Times' Car Clinic last week, one motorist expressed his interest in shopping around for a 1970s Porsche - but was warned this can be a mistake unless the buyer is a "competent mechanic".
The newspaper notes that often drivers have a tendency to look at classic cars from this era "through rose-tinted spectacles" and modern cars are not only better to drive, but also suffer less from rust and a constant need for servicing.
However, for those looking for a slice of nostalgia, it was advised that the following decade could be considered and added the Audi Quattro Coupe could be a bargain buy for some car finance customers.
"These cars were fast, good looking and well made. Prices range between about £5,000 and £12,000. It pays to buy the best example you can afford," it advised.
Audi's Quattro was celebrated as a rally vehicle in its heyday and in 2004 was named by Sports Car International as the fourth best sports car of the 1980s.
