Motorists in the UK taking out car finance deals may be plumping for diesel engines over traditional petrol types.
This is because new figures from the Society of Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) show an increase of 7.3 per cent in uptake for such models this year.
Further figures from the organisation show that some 1,479 alternatively-fuelled vehicles were sold in the UK last month - a statistics which could result in an increase in more eco-friendly car insurance policies being picked up.
However, chief executive of the SMMT Paul Everitt said he believes that the sector needs more official help to promote environmentally-friendly driving.
"[The industry] needs the support of the government in order to encourage the uptake of lower-emitting vehicles", said the official.
A recent blog posted on TheGreenCarWebsite.co.uk suggests that motorists who go green will make savings, Money News has reported.
