A shinier old car 'could lead to a shinier new car'

Drivers looking to boost their car finance packages by selling their old vehicle have been advised to clean up their act.

According to EurotaxGlass's, motorists selling their car privately could add as much as £600 to the value of their old model just by spending a few hours or pounds on making their vehicle appear well looked after, Easier Motoring reports.

Jeff Paterson, chief car editor at EurotaxGlass, said it is likely that a private buyer will look at a car that is dirty as an example of a model that has been poorly maintained - which could lead them to take their car finance elsewhere or haggle for a lower price.

"A thorough wash and polish and a comprehensive interior clean can really improve a vehicle’s appearance and add hundreds to its value in the private market," he said.

"At around £40 a professional valet could be a sound investment."

Drivers could increasingly be influenced by their experiences with rental cars when looking for the right model, according to recent figures from Avis.
