'Speed doesn’t kill'

Removing speed limits would reduce fatalities as speed does not kill, according to a road-users' rights campaigner.

Martin Cassini, author of the Fit Roads website, said that speed does not kill, it is inappropriate speed that costs lives.

He claims that speed limits could be counter-productive and road-users should be left to use their common sense.

According to traffic researcher Chad Dornsife: "The desired effect of speed limits is achieved by removing them."

Mr Dornsife was referring to a trial in Montana which disposed of speed limits and saw road traffic accidents drop to an "all-time low" despite a 15 per cent increase in the number of cars on the road.

He added: "In traffic engineering findings the vehicles travelling faster than average have the lowest accident rates."

Car loan customers might like to know that road deaths dropped to their lowest level since records began last year, according to the Guardian.ADNFCR-1597-ID-18691577-ADNFCR
