There has been a rise in the cost of the average car insurance policy compared to 12 months ago, according to new research.
Sainsbury's Car Insurance Index has found that the average cost of a premium in June was £514.36.
The body has stated that this year's study marks the first time the amount has gone over the £500 mark since the index was set up in June 2005, car credit customers may be interested to know.
In addition, Sainsbury's stated that this is an average increase of 5.8 per cent against figures recorded by the company in July 2007.
According to Joanne Mallon, car insurance manager for the firm, an increase in repair costs and personal injury claims is behind the rise.
The research comes after findings from moneysupermarket.com show that female drivers who have just gained their driving licence spend around £1,200 less on their first cover policy than men.
